Gypsy Jazz & Square Boules

Le Grimaldi by Le Village • August 21, 22, and 23, 2026

If there's one weekend of the year that perfectly encapsulates the eclectic and festive spirit of Haut-de-Cagnes, it's the one coming up.

Between the grand Jazz Night at the Château on Friday, which will transport us back to the Roaring Twenties, and the legendary and unusual World Square Boules Championship, which will liven up the streets all weekend, the historic village is about to come alive. The Le Village restaurant will, as always, be your ideal meeting point to experience these events.

Friday, August 21

White Party & Gypsy Jazz

To kick off this grand weekend, the festival Jazz at the Castle invites you to take a leap back in time with the trio The Jazz BicraversFrom 9pm, the Place du Château will be transformed into a glamorous Gatsby-style cabaret.

From the Paris of the Roaring Twenties to New Orleans, by way of Eastern European sounds, Antoine Miekiszak (guitar), Bastien Zaouche (guitar), and Michaël Natale (bass) will conjure up echoes of a familiar past on their instruments. Influenced by Django Reinhardt, their riffs will resonate with the pounding of guitars, creating a festive and warm atmosphere.

The detail that makes all the difference:

To fully embrace this "Roaring Twenties" atmosphere, a white party dress code is requested. Imagine dining on the terrace at the Village, all dressed in white, under the stars, to the rhythm of swing music...

Saturday, August 22nd and Sunday, August 23rd

The 45th World Square Boules Championship

The most unusual event of the summer is back! Since 1980, August has been the stage for this strange practice, so deeply rooted in the memories of the people of Cagnes.

The origin of this tradition? The narrow streets of Vieux-Bourg being far too steep for playing classic pétanque (with inclines reaching up to 18% on the climb to Bourgade!), the Cercle des Amis (Friends' Circle) had the brilliant idea of creating six-sided boules: a perfect cube of wood to prevent them from rolling down the slope. The "cochonnet" (jack) became the "titchon" (small wooden ball).

This friendly event, open to everyone (children, women, men, beginners or enthusiasts), brings together hundreds of participants each year.
